A charge is rest is influenced by an electric field.

  • The charge of a particle is the property due to which it produces electrical and magnetic effects.
  • Electric charge is an intensive and scalar quantity.
  • A charge is an intrinsic property due to which a body produces and experiences an electrical effect.
  • According to Biot- Savart`s law, an electric charge at rest produces only an electric field around it and not a magnetic field.
  • On the other hand, a charge moving with a uniform velocity has an electric as well as a magnetic field around it.
  • Magnetic force is always perpendicular to the field while electric force is collinear with it.
  • Magnetic force is velocity dependent and acts only when the charged particle is in motion.
  • The electric field is independent of the state of rest and motion of the charged particle.
  • Magnetic force doesn't work when the charged particle is displaced while electric force doesn't work in displacing the charged particle

Hence,  The electric field influences the charge at rest as it is independent of the state of rest and motion of the charged particle.
