A charge of 1.0c is placed at the top of your college building and another equal charges at the top of your house. Take the separation between the two charges to be 2.0km. Find the force exerted by the charges on each other. How many times of your weight is this force?

Information provided to us :

  • A charge of 1.0c is placed at the top of college building.
  • Another equal charges at the top of house.
  • Seperation between them is of 2 km

To Calculate :

  • Force exerted?

Performing Calculations :

As both the charges are equal to Q1 = Q2 i.e., of 1 coloumb.

As we know electrostatic force is calculated by the formula :

  • F = K q1 q2 / r²

Here,

  • r is seperation between them.
  • K is dielectric constant

So we're having value of r as 2 km but we'll convert it into metres and value of K is (9 × 10⁹).

  • 2km = 2 × 10³ m

Substituting the values,

  • F = (9 × 10⁹) × 1 × 1 / (2 × 10³)²
  • F = (9 × 10⁹) × 1 / (2 × 10³)²
  • F = (9 × 10⁹) / (2 × 10³)²
  • F = (9 × 10⁹) / (2)² × 10⁶
  • F = (9 × 10⁹) / 4 × 10⁶
  • F = 9 × 10³ / 4
  • F = 2.25 × 10³ N

Therefore, force exerted is of 2.25 × 10³ N
