Given :   A charitable organisation purchased laptops and mobiles for distribution among needy children for attending online classes. The number of laptops is one less than the number of mobile phones purchased. Also, two times the number of mobile phones is 12 less than three times the number of laptops purchased

To find  (i) Form the pair of linear equations in two variables from this situation. (ii) Draw the graphs of the above equations. (iii) How many laptops and mobile phones did they purchase

Solution:

Laptops  =  x

Mobile phone = y

number of laptops is one less than the number of mobile phones purchased.

=> x =  y  -  1

=> x - y = -1

two times the number of mobile phones is 12 less than three times the number of laptops purchased.

2y = 3x  -  12

=> 3x  - 2y  =  12

x - y = -1

3x  - 2y  =  12

from graph :

x = 14   y = 15

Laptops = 14

Mobile phones = 15
