Step-by-step explanation:

(0.25) * (x liters) + (0.50) * ((10 - x) liters) = (0.40) * 10 liters

 x = 4

 So, 4 liters of 25% solution added to 6 liters of 50% solution yields 10 liters of 40% solution.
