We are familiar with the fact that a child is formed when an egg from a mother and a sperm from a father fuse together. Both parents share half of their chromosomes. We know that a gene has a pair of alleles. In some cases, one allele is dominant over the other and shows up phenotypically.
Dominant genes appear whereas recessive genes stay quiet which explain the fact that a child born does not look exactly like his parents.
