It is observed that Yeast fails to multiply in water but gets multiplied in sugar solution.

It's because Yeast is a unicellular organism and it reproduces through budding.It needs energy to get itself multiplied(fermentation)

In water, there is no nutrition. It has zero energy.

Sugar contains sucrose.It is a form of glucose and glucose is a energy in form of A. T. P.Now with this energy, Yeast gets multiplied by the process of budding.
