A Chinese scholar who travelled regularly
in the country to give lectures was disappointed
to find that fellow travellers in the train talked
only about business and making money and
vould not speak to a poor professor ure nim.
So he was delighted to see during one of his
rips that the man sitting next to him was
reading an anthology of Shakespeare's poetry
Thinking that he had finally found someone
with similar interests, the scholar tried to
strike up a conversation. The man, however,
continued to immerse himself in his book.
When the train finally pulled into the
station, the man seemed relieved. "I am a
businessman who carries loads of cash,” he
told the scholar. "I bring these books along only
because I am afraid of being robbed. Everyone
knows how poor intellectuals are!"
