A chord is at a distance of 12 cm from the centre of a circle of radius 13 cm. Find the length of the chord.​

Let AB the chord.

In right angled triangle AOM, given OA=13cm=radius.

OM= distance of centre O from the chord = 12cm

By Pythagoras theorem

 {am}^{2} =  {ao}^{2} -  {om}^{2}  \\  \\  =  {13}^{2} -  {12}^{2} \\  \\  = 25 \\  \\  {am}^{2} = 25 \\  \\ am = 5cm

AM=5cm

Therefore, chord AB =2(AM)

=2×5=10cm
