In eukaryotes,DNA is tightly bound to an equal mass of histones , which forms the repeating array of DNA proteins particles called nucleosomes. The nucleosome is composed of an octameric core of histone protein around which the DNA double helix is wrapped. A chromatin fibre of 40nm length contains 25 nucleosome. The degree of compaction of DNA associated with this chromatin fibre is approximately 27 folds.
