A circuit consists of 1 ohm resistor in series with a parallel arrangement of 6 ohm and 3
ohm resistors. The combination is connected with a 6 volt battery. Draw a circuit diagram
and calculate
I. Total resistance.
II. Current in 1 ohm resistor.
III. Current in 3 ohm resistor.
IV. Voltage in 6 ohm resistor.

Answer:

WHEN CONNECTED IN PARALLEL >

1/R = 1/R (1) +1/R (2)

THEREFORE R= 2 OHM

WHEN CONNECTED IN SERIES >

R = 1 OHM

THEREFORE TOTAL RESISTANCE = 3 OHM

Equvalent for parallal resistance,

1/r = 1/6 + 1/3 + 1/2

R=2 Ω

Now, R=2 Ω and R=1 Ω is in series.

R (eq) =2+1=3Ω
