A circular carpet of diameter 2.8 m is spotted in the centre with a 20 cm striped border. Find the area of the striped portion of the carpet to the nearest sq.cm.

Answer:

Area of stripped portion = ( Area of carpet - Area of inner portion)

Diameter of carpet = 2.8m = 280cm

So radius of carpet= 140cm

Area of carpet= 22/7(140*140) = 61600 cm sq

Radius of inner portion = 140-20=120cm

Area of inner portion= 22/7 (120*120)

= 45216 cm sq.

Area of stripped portion = 61600-45216= 16384 cm sq.
