To Find:

Radius of gyration.

Solution:

Diameter of circular column = 200mm

Radius of circular column = 200/2 = 100mm

Now,

Moment of inertia (I) of circular column along its axis = πr²/4

Area of circular column, A = πr²

Radius of gyration, k = square root of ratio of moment of inertia and area of the circular column.

therefore,

k = \sqrt{I} /\sqrt{A}

k = \sqrt{\pi r^{2}/4/\pi r^{2}

k = \sqrt{1/4}

k = 1/2 = 0.5mm

Hence the radius of gyration of circular column is 0.5 mm.
