Given:

Resistance = 40 ohms

Battery = 24V

Internal resistance = 0.5 ohms

To Find:

The current flowing through the battery

Solution:

Since there are two parts of the loop P and Q, thus -

Resistance of each part -

= (1/4) x 40

= 10Ω and

(3/4) x 40

= 30Ω

Now,

1/R = 1/10 + 1/30

1/R = ( 3 + 1)/30

= 30/4

= 7.5

internal resistance is 0.5ohms, thus -

Total Resistance = 7.5 + 0.5 = 8 Ω

Since, the voltage of the battery is 24V, thus -

Current = 24/8

= 3

Answer: The current flowing through the battery is 3A.
