This type of construction is known as the banking of road.

  • In the case of circular paths or tracks, the necessary centripetal force is absent for the vehicles, this allows frictional force to dominate the scenario, and all of this might cause accidental skidding of the vehicles.
  • Now, to avoid this kind of situation, the outer edge of the road is raised by some angle which allows the components of velocity of the vehicle to be formed in such a way that it provides necessary centripetal force to the vehicle, in order to avoid accidental skidding.
  • This banking of road is necessary for heavy vehicles which cannot tilt of it's own.
