A circus tent is in the shape of a cylinder surmounted by a cone The diameter of the cylindrical portion is 24 m and height is 11 m.If the vertex of the cone is 16m above the ground,find the area of the canvas uesd to make the tent.

r = 12 m

Slant height of cone, \bold{L=\sqrt{r^{2}+h^{2}}}

=\sqrt{12^{2}+5^{2}} = √ 144+25 = √169= 13 m

Step 4:

Area  of canvas  = CSA of cylinder + CSA of cone

=2πrh + πrl=πr[2h+l]

=227×12×(22+13)

Step 5:

=227×12×35  

= 60×22  

= 1320\mathrm{m}^{2}
