Step-by-step explanation:

Given:-

A cistern can be filled by one tap in 4 hours and by another in 3 hours.

To find:-

How long will it take to fill if both taps are opened together?

Solution:-

Time taken for filling up a cistern by a Tap

=4 hours

Work done by the tap in one hour =1/4

Time taken for filling up the cistern by another tap = 3 hours

Work done by the tap in one hour =1/3

work done by both taps work together in one hour =(1/4)+(1/3)

LCM of 4 and 3=12

=>(3+4)/12

=>7/12

Work done by them in one hour =7/12

Time taken by them to fill up the cistern both taps are opened together =12/7 hours

=>1 5/7 hours

Answer:-

The time taken to fill if both taps are opened together =12/7 hours or 1 5/7 hours
