A cistern is 1/3 full.after drawing off 18 liters it is just 1/5 full. what is the capacity the cistern?

Let capacity be x litres.

(1/3)x - 18 = (1/5)x
=> (1/3)x - (1/5)x = 18
=> (5x-3x)/15 =18
=> 2x = 18*15
=> x = 135
Hence total capacity is 135 litres
