Number of students studying both is, N(A + E) = 15 .
The probabilty of a student studies both P(A+E), is obtained as below,
P(A + E) N (A + E) N P(A + E) = 15/40 =
P(A + E) = 3/8
Thus, the probability that a student studies both is 3/8.
