Answer: 15 / 40 or 3 / 8

Given,

Number of students = 40 .

Number of girls = 25

Number of boys = 40 - 25 = 15 .

So,

Probability of selecting a boy is required to be found.

Sample space is the class.

n ( S ) = 40

Number of favourable outcomes are 15 .

So,

Probability of selecting a boy = 15 / 40 = 3 / 8

Concept

Probability is the branch of mathematics concerning numerical descriptions of how likely an event is to occur, or how likely it is that a proposition is true. The probability of an event is a number between 0 and 1, where, roughly speaking, 0 indicates impossibility of the event and 1 indicates certainty.

Given

1) Total Students = 40

2) Number of boys = 25

3) Number of girls = 15

Find

Probability of selecting a girl student as the monitor.

Solution

Total no of students = 40

Total no of girls = 15

P(girl as monitor ) = 15/40

= 3 * 5 /40

= 3/8

Probability of selecting a girl student as the monitor is 3/8
