To find:

Displacement of the hour hand in 9 hours.

Solution:

1) The length of the hour hand would be the radius of the circular path covered by the hand of the clock.

2) Hand covers the time of 9 hours so it will cover 3/4 of the total distance.

3) So the displacement will be

  • 3/4(2πr)
  • 3/2×πr
  • 3/2×22/7×14
  • 66 cm.

Displacement of the hour hand in 9 hours is 66 cm.
