A clock with an iron pendulum keeps correct time at 20°C. How much will it lose or gain per month if temperature changes to 40^C? Coefficient of cubical expansion of iron = 36×10^-6°C^-1

Answer:

∆T = 1/2 T αΔθ

∆t = ∆T / T'

but T' = T

∆t = 1/2 αΔθ (t)

= 1/2 × 36 × 10^-6 × 20 × 24 × 3600

= 31.10 s

At higher temperature length of pendulum clock will be more. So time period will be more and it will lose the time.
