A close circuit consists of a resistor R.  inductor of
inductance L and a source of emf E are connected
in series.  If the inductance of the coil is abruptly
decreased to L/4 ( by removing is magnetic core).
the new current  immediately after this moment is:
(before decreasing the inductance the circuit is in
steady state)

Answer:

As the inductor decreases to

4

L

, inductive reactance X

L

decreases to

4

ωL

. .

Since the resistor and inductor are in series, resistance of the circuit decreases.

Hence, current increases.

Flux through a closed circuit containing an inductor does not change instantaneously since the induced current in the circuit opposes the change in flux.

∴L(

R

E

)=

4

L

(i)⇒i=

R

4E
