First we will find the area of the box from outside and then the area of the box from inside the box. Then we can subtact the two values and find the volume of the wood used.
Volume of the box from outside
= 5cm x 4cm x 7cm
= 140 cubic.cms
The wood is 1cm thick so, Volume of the box from inside
= 4cm x 3cm x 6cm
= 72 cubic.cms
Volume of wood used
= Volume of the box from outside - Volume of the box from inside
= 140 - 72
= 68 cubic.cms
Volume of the box from outside
= 5cm x 4cm x 7cm
= 140 cubic.cms
The wood is 1cm thick so, Volume of the box from inside
= 4cm x 3cm x 6cm
= 72 cubic.cms
Volume of wood used
= Volume of the box from outside - Volume of the box from inside
= 140 - 72
= 68 cubic.cms
