OK
using Boyle's law
we have v/T = constant

as the piston moves 5 cm
length of I side will be (L/2 +5)
and other side will.( L/2 -5)
now apply
( L/2+5 /373) =(L/2 -5/273)
on solving them

u will get 64.6 CM

hope it works

Answer:

The correct answer to this question is L = 64.6cm

Explanation:

Given - A closed cylinder is filled with gas at 0°C and also contains an insulated piston of negligible weight and negligible thickness at the middle point. The gas on one side of the piston is heated to 100°C. If the Piston moves 5cm.

To Find - Find the length of the hollow cylinder.

Now, according to the question,

\frac{PV}{T} is constant for gas in both sections of the cylinder.

For sections with constant temperature,

P_{0}V_{0} = P_{1}V_{1}

= P(A\frac{L}{2} )= P_{1} (A\frac{L}{2} - 5 )

Temperature increased,

\frac{P_{0} V_{0} }{T_{0} } = \frac{P_{1} V_{1} }{T_{1} }

\frac{P_{0}(A\frac{L}{2}) }{273} = \frac{P_{1}(A\frac{L}{2} + 5 ) }{273}

L = 64.6cm
