fundamental frequency of closed pipe, f = v/4l

= v/4 × 10cm = v/40 cm......(1) , where v is speed of sound.

second overtone of an open pipe, f' =3v/2l' .....(2)

f = f'/2

⇒v/40cm = 1/2 3v/2l'

⇒1/40 = 3/4l'

⇒l' = 3 × 40/4 = 30 cm
