Given data : A coach buys 3 bats and 6 balls for Rs 3900. Later, she buys another bat and 3 more balls for Rs 1300.

To find : The cost of a bat and a ball ?

Solution : Let, cost of a bat be Rs x and a ball be Rs y.

Now, we take two equations from give data and assumption.

⟹ 3x + 6y = 3900 ----{1}

⟹ x + 3y = 1300 ----{2}

Now, multiply eq. {2} by 2, we get

⟹ 2x + 6y = 2600 ----{3}

Now, subtract eq. {3} from eq. {1}

3x + 6y = 3900

- (2x + 6y = 2600)

___________________

x = 1300

Now, put value of x in eq. {1}

⟹ 3x + 6y = 3900

⟹ 3 * (1300) + 6y = 3900

⟹ 3900 + 6y = 3900

⟹ 6y = 3900 - 3900

⟹ 6y = 0

⟹ y = 0/6

⟹ y = 0

Answer : The cost of a bat is Rs 1300 and a ball is Rs 0 (zero).

[Verification : Put value of x and y in eq. {1}

⟹ 3x + 6y = 3900

⟹ 3 * 1300 + 6 * 0 = 3900

⟹ 3900 + 0 = 3900

⟹ 3900 = 3900

Hence, it verified]
