When the bar magnet is pushed into the coil or withdrawn from the coil there will be a deflection in the galvanometer. This is because of the induced current in the coil which is generated due to relative motion between the coil and magnet. When held stationary near the coil there is no relative motion and so no current is induced in the coil.
