The probability of getting a Tail is  0.53 if a Coin is tossed 500 times with the following frequencies : Head : 235 , Tail : 265

Given:

  • A Coin is tossed 500 times resulting in following frequencies
  • Head : 235
  • Tail : 265

To Find:

  • Probability of getting a Tail  if coin is tossed again

Solution:

  • Experimental probability is the ratio comparing the number of times an event occurred to the number of trials.
  • Probability of an event  = n(E)/n(S)
  • n(E) = number of times  event occurred
  • n(S) = number of trials
  • P(E) + P('not E') = 1

Step 1:

A Coin is tossed 500 times hence number of trials = 500

n(S) = 500

Step 2:

Number of times tails occurred = 265

n(T) = 265

Step 3:

Find probability of occurring Tail P(T)

P(T) = n(T)/n(S)

P(T) = 265/500

P(T) = 0.53

The probability of getting a Tail is  0.53

Correct option is d) 0.53
