Explanation:
- The coin is not visible because rays AR and AS [Fig. 1] cannot reach the eye.
- However, a ray of light, AB passes from a denser medium into a rarer medium from the lower end of coin A at point B and gets refracted away from the normal in the direction BR'.
- Ray of light AD also gets refracted in DS's direction.
- Refracted rays BR' and DS' can reach the eye of the person, who sees the coin raised to A' (Fig. 2).
- Now the coin, which was not seen earlier, comes into view.
- In fig. 2. A' is the probable position of coin A, which seems to be raised due to the refraction of light.
