Answer:

R(p) = 12/70  ohms

R(s) = 5  ohms

R = R(s) + R(p) = 5.17 ohms

By  Ohm's Law,

I = V/R

⇒ I = 9/5.17

⇒ I = 1.6  amps

ANSWER = 1.6 amps
