Answer: Naval Central Strike committee

A Naval Central Strike committee was elected with MS Khan as it's head.

What is Naval Central Strike committee?

  • A ratings strike—a term for a sailor who is subordinate to officers—demanded better food and lodging during the outset of the Royal Indian Navy Mutiny.
  • There were significant salary, living, and basic amenity disparities between Indian and British sailors in the navy, and the Indian sailors were mistreated by their British officers.
  • A group of ratings had landed at Bombay Harbor when the strike began. For like reasons, the ratings of HMIS Talwar, a shore establishment, also harboured raging resentment toward their superiors.
  • Leading Signalman Lieutenant M.S. Khan and Petty Officer Telegraphist Madan Singh were chosen as the committee's president and vice-president, respectively, on February 19.
  • Both the INA trials and Subhas Chandra Bose's character served as inspiration for the strikers.
  • The strike quickly turned into a public uprising as more cities joined the Bombay sailors. There were 66 ships and shore facilities with sailors from Karachi, Calcutta, Poona, Vizag, Cochin, Madras, Mandapam, and the Andaman Islands participating.
