I will keep it simple.

Bonus shares are additional shares given to the current shareholders without any additional cost, based upon the number of shares that a shareholder owns.

Example: if you are holding 1000 shares of Reliance Industries Ltd. If company declares bonus share of ratio 1:1, you will get 1 bonus share for 1 share,

So you if you are holding 3 shares of a company you will get 1 share as bonus. ( 1:3.) for 100 shares you will get 33 shares as bonus + your 100 shares, now you totally own 133 shares.

if an investor holds 200 shares of a company and a company declares 4:1 bonus, that is for every 1 share, he gets 4 shares for free. That is total 800 shares for free and his total holding will increase to 1000 shares.

There are different types of Share split ratios.

Example 5:1, 1:4, 1:10, 2:1, 10:1, etc I think now you can calculate yourself.

You will not get any bonus shares.

Because for every 3 shares held, 1 bonus share is being paid.

Since you have only 1 share, you will not get any share because you can't buy shares in part. meaning, you can buy only a full share.
