Concept:

In mathematics, a combination is a selection of items from a set that has distinct members, such that the order of selection does not matter.

For  example:  Picking a team of 3 people from a group of 10.

Given:

We are given that there are 10 suppliers who has sent the proposal to the company.

Also, the company decided to select 4 of the proposals simultaneously.

Find:

We need to find the number of groups of 4 proposals that could be selected by the company.

Solution:

We will be using combinations for it as the order of selection does not matter.

Formula for combination:

^{n} C_{r} =\frac{n!}{r!(n-r)!}

We have:

n=10 and r=4

Substituting the values in the formula:

¹⁰C₄ = (10!) / (4!)(6!)

¹⁰C₄ = 210

Therefore, the number of groups of 4 proposals that could be selected by the company are 210.
