(x + 40) + x = 90
2x = 90 - 40
x. = 50/2
x = 25
one angle = x + 40 = 25+ 40 = 65'
second angle = x = 25'

Two angles are said to be complementary, if their sum is 90°.

Let the required angles be a,b.
So, a + b = 90°_______ (1)

Given that
a = b + 40°_____(2)

∴ from (1) and (2)
( b + 40° ) + b = 90°
2b + 40° = 90°
2b = 90° - 40°
2b = 50°
b = 25°

And
a = b + 40°
a = 25° + 40°
a = 65°

The complementary angles are 25° and 65°
