Solution of the given problem is shown below,

Let W denotes the whole given work.

It is mentioned that

A completes the work W in 15 days. B completes the same work W in 20 days.

Hence in 1 day, A & B separately can complete the amounts of work W/15 & W/20 respectively.

A started the work W by working alone and after 1 day B joined him.

Let D denotes the number of days that will be required for A & B now working together to complete the remaining work (W - W/15 =) 14*W/15.

Therefore we get the following relation,

D*(W/15 + W/20) = 14*W/15 or D*(1/15 + 1/20) = 14/15

or D*(7/60) = 14/15 or D = 60*2/15 = 8 (days) [Ans]
