You can do the calculations to calculate the value of F. It is very simple.

Dear Student,

◆ Answer -

F = 3142 N

● Explanation -

Young's modulus Y is given by -

Y = FL/Al

l = FL/YA

Given that total extension is 1.2 mm = 1.2×10^-3 m.

l = l1 + l2

l = FL1/Y1A + FL2/Y2A

l = F/A (L1/Y1 + L2/Y2)

1.2×10^-3 = F/(π×25×10^-6) × [2.2/(1.1×10^11) + 2/(2×10^11)]

1.2×10^-3 × (π×25×10^-6) = F (2×10^-11 + 10^-11)

9.425×10^-8 = F × 3×10^-11

F = 9.425×10^-8 / 3×10^-11

F = 3142 N

Hence, the force given is 3142 N.

Thanks dear. Hope this helps you..
