A compound A(C2H4O2)reacts with Na metal to form a compound B and evolved a gas which burns with POP sound. compound A on treatment with alchohol C in the presence of an acid forms a sweet smelling substance D(C4H5O2).On adddition ofNaOH to D gives back B and C.
