A compound A( C2H4O2) reacts with Na metal to form a compound B and evolves a gas which burns with pop sound. Compound A on treatment with alchohol C in presence of an acid forms a sweet smelling compound D ( C4H8O2). On addition of NaOH to D gives back B and C. Identify A,B,C write the reactions evolved.

REACTIONS INVOLVED :-⛪
2 CH3COOH + 2Na -----> 2 CH3COONa + H2
CH3COOH + C2H5OH ----> CH3COOC2H5 + H2O
CH3COOC2H5 + NaOH ----> CH3COONa + C2H5OH.

Answer :-
A compound A( C2H4O2) reacts with Na metal to form a compound B and evolves a gas which burns with pop sound. Compound A on treatment with alchohol C in presence of an acid forms a sweet smelling compound D ( C4H8O2).
This is a reaction involving organic compounds.
Compound A is an alkanoic acid or rather carboxylic acid.
Caboxylic acids react with alcohols to form sweet smelling substances known as Esters.
This process is known as esterification.
Carboxylic acids react with metals to evolve hydrogen gas and salt.
The Chemical reactions are as follows:
1) 2CH₃COOH + 2Na ------> 2CH₃COONa + H₂
A B
Compound B is Sodium Ethanoate.
The gas is hydrogen gas.
2) CH₃COOH ....(CH₃CHOH).......> CH₃CH₂CH₃COO + H₂O
C D
Compound C is Ethanol whereas D is Ethyl ethanoate.
