The compound 'A' is the ethanoic acid (CH3COOH) which forms the compound B after reaction with the metal Na.

The compound formed 'B' is the sodium acetate (CH3COONa).

The alcohol 'C' is the methanol (CH3OH).

The sweet smelling substance 'D' is Methyl acetate or ester (CH3COOCH3).

The reactions that are involved are -

1. 2Na + 2CH3COOH -------> 2CH3COONa + Hydrogen gas.

2. CH3OH + CH3COOH + H2SO4 --------> water + CH3COOCH3

3. NaOH + CH3COOH + H2SO4 ---------> CH3COONa + water

4. CH3COOCH3 + NaOH ---------> CH3OH + CH3COONa
