Hi there,

◇ Given

● H percentage is 4.07

● H atomic mass is 1

● C percentage is 24.27

● C atomic mass is 12

● Cl percentage is 71.65

● Cl atomic mass is 35.5

◇ Empirical formula calculation

1- Find moles of each element by dividing percentage over atomic mass so,

n(H) = 4.07÷1 = 4.07 mol

n(C) = 24.27÷ 12 = 2.02

n(Cl) = 71.65 ÷ 35.5 = 2.02

2- Find mol ratio by dividing over the lowest value

H ratio 2

C ratio 1

Cl ratio 1

So,

☆ The empirical formula is

《 CH2Cl》

◇ Molecular formula calculation

Find the molar mass of empirical

12 + 2 + 35.5 = 49.5

The molar mass of moleculare is 98.96

So the coefficent

98.96 ÷ 49.5 = 2

So, the moleculare formula is

《 C2H4Cl2 》
