atomic no. of carbon is 6
and atomic no. of oxygen is 8
therefore according to their mass ratio
3:1
then 3×6/1×1 = 18÷1 = 18 amu

there is no compound of carbon and oxygen in the ratio 3:1

but instead there is carbon and hydrogen in the ratio 3:1 the compound is CH₄

C=12 , H= 1×4 so the ratio is 12:4 = 3:I
