a compound has 20% of carbon and the rest is hydrogen. if the amount of hydrogen in the compund is 160g then find the amount of carbon and total amount of the compound

Let the mass of hydrocarbon be 100g

Therefore , H=20g=20 moles

C=80g= 80/12 moles=6.67moles

C:H=6.67:20=1:3

Therefore, the empirical formula of hydrocarbon is CH3
