A compound has 20% of carbon and the rest is hydrogen.if the amount of hydrogen in the compound is 160g,then find the amount of carbon and total amount of compound.​

Let the amount of carbon =xg

Amount of carbon =20%

Amount of hydrogen=100%-20%=80%

Now given that the amount of hydrogen is 160g

Therefore the amount of compound is

80\% \: of \: x = 160g \\  \frac{80}{100}  \times x = 160g \\ x =  \frac{160 \times 100}{80} = 200g

Now amount of carbon is 20% of compound

20\% \: of \: 200 =  \frac{20}{100}  = 40g

Hence the amount of compound is 200g and the amount of carbon is 40g.
