A compound is formed by two elements x and y .Atoms of the element y make ccp and those of the element x occpy all the octahedral voids ...what is the formula of the compound???????????????????????????

suppose no.of atoms y in ccp=n

as no.of octahedral voids =no.of atoms in ccp

no.of octahedral voids=n

as all the octahedral voids are occupied by atoms x , therefore no.of atoms x=n

ratio of x:y=n:n=1:1

hence the formula of the compound is "xy".....

Hey !!

Let us cosider the number of  atoms Y in ccp = N

Number of octahedral voids = N × 1 = N

Number of atoms of X = N

Now, Ratio of X : Y = N : N = 1 : 1

Hence, formula of the compound = XY
