The name of the compound is Plaster of Paris.

Its chemical formula is CaSO4.½H2O

Equation:

CaSO4.2H2O ------> CaSO4.½H2O + 1½ H2O

It is used in the hospitals mainly as plaster for supporting fractured bones in the right position.
