a compound x on heating with excess conc. sulphuric acid 443 K gives an insulated compound y. x also react with sodium metal to evolve a colourless gas Z. identify x,y and Z . write the equation of the chemical reaction of formation of Y and also write the role of sulphuric acid in the reaction.

Compound x is ethanol. On heating with excess h2so4 it produces c2h4 aka ethene or ethylene which is our compund y. X reacts with sodium to form c2h5ona.. Sodium alkoxide with liberation of hydrogen which is z. Here sulphuric acid acts as a strong dehydratiog agent
