X is ethanol.
Y is ethene.
Z is hydrogen gas.
The reaction involved to get ethene is :-
CH3CH2OH → C2H4
The role of conc. Sulphuric acid is that it dehydrates ethanol to give ethene and is thus referred to as a dehydrating agent.
