A compound x on heating with excess conceterated sulphiric acid at 443k gives an unsaturated compound y. X also reacts with sodium metal to evolve a colorless gas z. Identify x,y and z. Write the equation of the chemical reaction of formarion of y and also write the role of sulphuric acid in the reaction

the compound X is ethanol (CH3CH2OH)which when heated in excess of sulphuric acid at 443k gives Y which is *ethene*(CH2=CH2). As it has double bond it is unsaturated in nature.
Now when ethanol X reacted with Sodium its gives sodium ethoxide(CH3CH2ONa) and liberate hydrogen gas(Z) which is colourless gas.
reaction involved:-
conc.h2so4
CH3CH2OH ----------------》CH2=CH2 + H2O
(x) 443k (y)
CH3CH2OH + Na--------------》CH3CH2ONa+H2
(Z)
