Answer:

I think the answer is...

A,. 20*3 = 60

= 60+30 = 90 pesos (for succeeding the hour)

B,. 150 min= 2½ hours

20*2+10= 50

50+ 20= 70 pesos

Given : a computer shop charges 20 pesos per hour (or a fraction of an hour) for the first two hours and

an additional 10 pesos per hour for each succeeding hour.

To  Find :  how much you would pay if you use one of their computers for:

(A) 3 hours

(B) 150 minutes

Solution:

Situation can be represented using a piece wise function

let say h denotes the number of hours

and C represents the cost in pesos

C = 20h    if   0 < h ≤ 2

C = 20h  + 10 ( h - 2)    if  h > 2

  = 30h  - 20   if  h > 2

C = 20h  ,  0 < h ≤ 2

     30h - 20   , h > 2

h = 3 hours    h > 2

=>  C = 30(3) - 20  = 70   pesos

150 mins = 2.5 hrs

2.5 > 2

C = 30(2.5)  - 20

  = 75 - 20

  = 55

Cost for 3 hours = 70   pesos

Cost for 150 minutes =55   pesos
