Given : A computer store has 10 computers out of which 3 are detective. A customer buys 2 computers at random.

To Find : the probability mass function that customer will get defective systems.

Solution:

n = 10

3 are detective

no defectives = 10 -3 = 7

customer buys 2 computers at random.

probability mass function that customer will get defective systems.

x = 0    P(x)  =  ⁷C₂.³C₀ / ¹⁰C₂   = 42/90  =  7/15

x = 1    P(x)  =   ⁷C₁.³C₁ / ¹⁰C₂   =  21/45  =   7/15

x =2    P(x)  =   ⁷C₀.³C₂ / ¹⁰C₂   =  6/90  =   1/15

P(x)  =   7/15    when x = 0 , 1

            1/15    when x  = 2
